Ingredients of Onion upma
  1. Prepare 1 cup of suji.
  2. It’s 2-3 of medium sized onions or can take as required.
  3. It’s 1-2 of green chilies.
  4. It’s 2 teaspoons of urad dal.
  5. Prepare 2-3 tablespoons of oil.
  6. You need 1 teaspoon of mustard seeds.
  7. It’s 1/2 teaspoon of sugar.
  8. It’s As per taste of Salt.
  9. It’s Few of Curry Leaves (Curry Patta).
  10. You need 8-10 pieces of cashewnuts (optional).
  11. Prepare As required of fresh coriander leaves for garnishing.
  12. Prepare 3-31/2 cup of warm water.
Onion upma instructions
  1. Take a kadhai add suji and dry roast for 5 to 6 minutes on low heat..

  2. Once done remove suji from kadhai add keep aside..

  3. In the same kadhai oil heat well, add cashewnuts and saute till turns golden brown and keep aside..

  4. Then in the same kadhai as oil is already in it add mustard seeds and as it crackles.Add urad dal, Saute it for a minute.Then add curry leaves onion, green chillies.

  5. Fry onion on medium to high heat till it changes the color to dark pinkish to brownish and translucent..

  6. Then add suji and mix it well. As we have already roasted so just mix well suji. Cook it for a minute or 2..

  7. Then,add water, and simultaneously keep stirring so that there are no lumps..

  8. Add salt and sugar. Keep stirring till the water is absorbed completely. Add kaju.keep few kaju for garnishing Now cover it and keep it on a low heat for 2 to 3 minutes Once done switch off the heat..

  9. Its ready to be served.Add upma in a plate as per the need and serve hot garnishing with kaju,coriander leaves or curry leaves. Curry leaves is optional.
